Serve on an AALHE Committee!

AALHE committee members are an active group of assessment professionals who help further the mission, vision, and strategic goals of AALHE. As a committee member, you can make valuable professional connections, share and develop your skills, and serve the association and assessment field at large. New and existing members alike are encouraged to get involved.

AALHE recruits for and renews committee assignments annually following our June Conference, but new committee members are welcomed at any time. To be considered, please submit the committee service form linked below. We strongly recommend that you consider a three-year commitment and engagement expectations when signing up for a committee. Note: Only members who have paid their annual membership dues are eligible to serve. If you’re not yet a member you can become a member when you complete the committee service form.

For a comprehensive guide to being an AALHE volunteer, please review the AALHE Committee Member Handbook.

The committee needs listed below indicate possible ways volunteers can support AALHE. These skills are not required to volunteer as there are many ways all members can contribute!

Conference CommitteeThe Conference Committee shapes the AALHE annual conference experience by recommending engaging programming, supporting the proposal review process, and planning interactive activities that foster connection and learning. The work is divided across multiple subcommittees, each offering opportunities for leadership and focused collaboration. We welcome members with experience in event planning, proposal evaluation, or a passion for creating meaningful attendee experiences.

Intersection CommitteeThe Intersection Committee coordinates and publishes AALHE’s flagship peer-reviewed research journal, sharing research on student learning outcomes assessment in higher education for the advancement of knowledge through scholarship. Members of the Intersection Committee gain professional development by learning about cutting-edge research in the field by reviewing and/or editing submitted manuscripts for the journal. To have full engagement and obtain reviewer/editor training, we encourage volunteers to join this committee at the beginning of the academic year, no later than October.
