Election Procedures for the AALHE President-Elect

2026 Call for Nominations

AALHE is currently accepting nominations for the President-Elect of the association. The President-Elect will serve for four years on the Executive Committee of the Board, the first year as President-Elect, the second and third year as President, and the fourth year as Past-President. The powers and duties of the President, President-Elect, and Past-President are outlined in the AALHE Bylaws


Prospective nominees can review the mandatory requirements, preferred qualifications, and service expectations below. Both current and past board members who meet the requirements are eligible to nominate themselves. Interested candidates may nominate themselves by filling out the nomination form linked below. 


The nomination period will run from February 1-28, 2026. The nominations will be reviewed by the Nominations Task Force for evidence that the nominees meet the mandatory requirements for service. Nominees who meet the mandatory requirements will be placed on the slate of candidates for the position of President-Elect, and the slate will be presented to the Board of Directors at their March meeting. All current AALHE members will be invited to participate in the election, which will take place from April 1-30, 2026.

Mandatory Requirements

To be eligible to run for the position of President-Elect, nominees must meet the following requirements: 

  • Individual, Institutional, Student, or Retired member in good standing, per AALHE Bylaws (Article II, Section 3, “Membership Dues and Privileges”)

  • Minimum of one year of service on the AALHE Board of Directors, with regular attendance at monthly board meetings per the requirements outlined in the AALHE Bylaws 

  • Demonstrated commitment to AALHE’s mission and values

  • History of effective group leadership or meeting facilitation

Preferred Qualifications

Nominees will also be asked to describe their contributions to the larger field of assessment of student learning in higher education, such as presentations, workshops, or webinars for regional, national, or global audiences; publications; and participation in professional assessment initiatives. 


Expectations

In addition to the duties outlined in the AALHE Bylaws, expectations for the President-Elect include but are not limited to: attendance at weekly Executive Committee meetings and 1:1 meetings with the President; attendance at the AALHE annual conference; and support of AALHE partnerships. The President-Elect shall plan to dedicate 8-10 hours a month on average to fulfill the duties of the position.
