Call for Fall 2017 Edition Submissions

Intersection Theme: Quality of Assessment

Assessment rarely meets ideal research conditions.

It rarely can. Programs, courses, faculty, assignments, and students all differ in ways that cannot easily (or wisely) be tampered with and which can frustrate attempts to meet the sorts of quality-of-assessment standards expected in peer-reviewed research.

One result of the above conditions is that assessment professionals may often find themselves wrestling with validity, reliability, and other quality-of-assessment issues in new ways.

That brings us to the question we’re posing for our Fall edition of Intersection: How has your institution addressed quality-of-assessment concerns about its assessment practices?

You’re invited to interpret that question broadly. Submissions might address how to improve the quality of assessments, how best to work with imperfect data, or how to design assessments to be more fair to range of cultures. If you think of an interpretation of quality that we haven’t listed here, we’re interested in seeing that, too.

General Guidelines: Articles should be 700 to 2100 words and of general interest to assessment professionals. The emphasis is on readability over technical details, although the use of statistics is not discouraged. APA style should be used for citations. Submissions should be not be used to market specific products.
