AALHE 2018 Networking Events

We all come to AALHE’s Annual Conference to learn, but there’s fun to be had as well! Each year we offer the chance to connect with other assessment professionals, enjoy experiences unique to the host city, and make great memories during these networking opportunities.

This year, we’re putting a focus on giving back to our host city and making sure to leave a positive footprint. We will once again be partnering with Barnes & Noble to offer books for sale. A percentage of the earnings will be donated to a local Salt Lake City Title I school’s library. If you plan to attend or present and would like to have your publication offered for sale, please let us know.

To further our goal to give back to Salt Lake City, we’re partnering with United Way to create snack kits for local schools. Purchase a kit through our registration system for just $8 and join us on Monday for a kit-building networking event.

United Way Snack Kit Building Event

Monday, 6/4/2018 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM; $8

To give back to our host city, AALHE is working with United Way to create snack kits for local Salt Lake City school children. Conference attendees can purchase a snack kit to assemble and enjoy a fun networking opportunity while helping to feed children in need.

Help make snack kits with the United Way of Salt Lake and ensure students who attend South Salt Lake's summer school program receive the nutrition they need and can continue their learning even after the school year has ended. During the school year many students in South Salt Lake receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner through programs at their schools. When summer comes around it can be difficult for families experiencing food insecurity to ensure kids’ nutritional needs are being met. Snack kits are an easy and fast way to make sure they are getting the food they need.

When a student has to worry about where their next meal is going to come from or if they will have a roof over their head that night, it can be difficult to focus on the valuable education that will lead them to later success. A snack-pack decorated with words of encouragement and filled with brain food such as granola bars, applesauce, juice and more is a simple way you can help a child succeed.

This event takes place Monday afternoon prior to the official start of the Conference within the Little America Hotel. Purchase your kit and join us for a great time assembling! If you are not able to attend and assemble the kit you are still welcome to purchase one. Volunteers will be on hand to create kits. Coffee and tea will be provided.

Dented Brick Distillery Tour and Tasting

Wednesday, 6/6/2018 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM; $11

Discover the Rockies' best kept secret when you take a tour on the same land where Brigham Young bought Hugh Moon’s whiskey (for medicinal purposes of course) in the 1850’s. You can take your time touring the distillery from the artesian well to the tasting area and all the fascinating steps in the process.

Experience the intricacies of Dented Brick brands; Vodka, Gin, (light or dark) Rum, and White Whiskey too. Keep the coaster and the shot glass too.

The cost of dinner is not included in this event. Attendees will have the option of dining at Apollo Burger immediately following the distillery tour & tasting.

Live Game Escape Room

Live Game Escape is a new concept of leisure entertainment and team building. Masterfully designed escape rooms feature a series of interactive puzzles and riddles. Solve all the challenges in order to finish the objectives of the rooms using teamwork, critical thinking, and logic within the allotted time. Will your team be able to escape within the time limit? Come enjoy the challenges and test your mind!

The cost of dinner is not included in this event. Attendees will have the option of dining at Cucina Toscana immediately following the Escape Room experience.

Temple Square Tour and Dinner

Salt Lake Bees Baseball Game and Dinner

Join us for a Minor League Baseball game with the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Angels. Smith's Ballpark, where the Bees play is noted for its stunning views of the Wasatch Mountains over the left and center field walls.

Great Salt Lake Sunset Tour

Wednesday, 6/6/2018 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM; $31.00

The Sunset Tour starts with beautiful twenty-minute drive out to the Great Salt Lake with a bird habitat and wild antelope along the way. People from around the world come to see the epic sunset the Great Salt Lake creates. If the weather permits, you can walk out into the water and soak in the many rejuvenating health benefits. Full tour takes about 2 hours.

Dinner is not included in the tour price, but AALHE will reserve dinner seating in the Little America restaurant, Lucky H Bar & Grille.
